Architectural firm RIMA Arquitectura has designed a project in an area of 500 square meters located in the north of Santa Fe, in Mexico City, Mexico in 2015. The home was designed specifically by Ricardo Urias, Rodrigo Espinosa, Yolanda Bravo, Maria Martinez, Daniela Pereyra, David Castillo, and Luis Animas, and consists of a interesting office complex, which attempts to cover both the functional and aesthetic needs demanded by the client.

The color palette and finishes selected correspond to the operating needs required by the space as well as the image design of the place, generating an homogeneous mixture between the rustic finishes and the more contemporary ones.

All of this resulted in a series of open spaces, very modern, full of elegance and functionality, where both the furnishings and the perfect illumination of each space coexist in perfect harmony.
A dividing wall with geometric volumes is the protagonist of the project. At the same time, the illumination is an important element in the design, as it allows for a better visualization of the details in all finishes created for this project.

The perfect synchronization of spaces allows for the company’s primary objective to be accomplished, as they now possess a place that offers both comfort and a dynamic quality that helps fulfill the needs of their clients.

Designed in 2014 by Elena Fateeva, this small 431 sq ft apartment is located in Kiev, Ukraine.

This 40-square-metre apartment in a pre-Revolution building is located in the very heart of the ancient Kiev. The building itself and its location defined the future interior. During the dismantling process the apartment revealed its real age and some really ancient elements. It was decided to keep everything that could be reconstructed as accents in the future interior. Thick brick walls inside the dwelling were left visible after the restauration. The floor of the balcony and the entrance were laid with paving block. In order to maintain the space as open as possible, tubes in the sleeping room were left out of the walls and received a new function of clothes hangers.

The designer Elena Fateeva had to face the task of creating a modern interior for 1-2 people supporting the ancient elements of the building not only with the décor. The essential thing was to make all spaces functional. As a result of the re-planning the old kitchen was converted into bedroom (2,3 х 3,5 m). The living space of the main zone united a living and dining rooms. The glass partition that divides the bathroom makes the small space visually lighter. Huge mirrors in the lobby give volume and enlarge the narrow and long corridor. The designer also focused on storage spaces, facing the challenge to hide the huge wardrobes indispensable for the owners’ comfortable living. The central part of the living room is a warm skin on the floor. The cozy sofa invites you to relax while watching TV or meditating on the wide windows and the balcony facing the calm inner yard. Metal décor elements designed by Elena Fateeva endow the interior with a rigorous masculine touch. The lamps over the dining space are also supported by colour and character of coffee tables in the living room. The custom-made chairs became the reflection of the whole interior’s mood combining the cold metal and the warm wood, the austerity of a man’s dwelling and the coziness of a comfortable home, modern materials and a light touch of antiquity.

Mixing work with personal life is rarely a success unless you’re actually serious about it and you plan the whole thing in a clear and detailed manner. For a photographer from Japan that worked out pretty great but it took a lot of planning. In 2017 FORM/Kouichi Kimura Architects completed a structure meant to serve both as a residence and as a workspace and gallery.

The street-facing facade doesn’t have any windows or openings

The house is situated along a countryside road, lined up with the neighboring properties. The lot on which is was built is small and L-shaped and thus the design of the house responded to this through a solid street-facing facade made of concrete and galvanized steel sheets. It ensures maximum privacy and it limits the exposure to some key areas.

The sections oriented toward the garden or the rear of the site are more open to the views

The L-shaped form of the lot played a partial role in determining the orientation and structure of the building

The layout is simple but not as linear as the exterior design of the house suggests. This is in part because of the hybrid nature of the house which serves both as a residence and as a photography studio and gallery. These two functions are not separated but instead juxtaposed and seamlessly blended with each other.

The interior is simple and almost austere, featuring polished concrete floors and bare walls

Some of the walls were painted white while others were left exposed and unfinished

The bare concrete surfaces are balanced out by warm wood tones and harmony is thus established

Instead of dividing the spaces by function, the architects and the client agreed on a more casual organization which puts the work spaces and the living areas together. There’s no clear spatial distinction between them and this is a representation of the client’s lifestyle and approach to everyday tasks.

The internal structure is not as linear and as simple as expected, being quite dynamic

There’s a constant juxtaposition of spaces and functions and a rather abrupt connection to the outdoors

A blend of concrete and wood defines almost every room of the house. The spaces are thus simple but also welcoming. They’re furnished with vintage accent pieces and decorated with framed pictures taken by the client. Some of the spaces are intentionally kept more austere in order to emphasize certain details.

There’s no clear distinction between the work spaces and the living areas as they all look similar

The floor plan is defined by different floor heights throughout the house

The entrance hall is large and has a skylight in the ceiling that lets natural light in. The floor is in polished concrete and the walls are white and the decor is intentionally kept this simple so the focus can be on the artwork displayed here.
