This marvelous renovation of a 19th century house-farm was carried out in 2013 by architectural firm van Ellen + Sheryn and specifically coordinated by talented architects Eilir Sheryn and Ian Phillips. It has a total area of 400 square meters and is located in the middle of Dartmoor National Park, in Devon, United Kingdom.
This country house and its granaries needed an urgent repair and renovation. The idea was to create a new home for a large family; this was achieved via the combination of the farm and its barn, which makes use of a contemporary glass extension.
The farmhouse now has 4 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and a spacious and bright kitchen / living area within the attached glass space. The use of the highest quality glazing systems allows panoramic views of the gardens surrounding the park and beyond, creating spaces filled with light.
The old milking parlor has become a guest accommodation. Half of the existing structure was demolished.
The design was well received by Dartmoor National Park and was seen as favorable in both the design and solution of returning life to a historic building.
