Kiss House is a project designed by Lazor Office. Perched above the bedrock at the shore of a remote Canadian lake, the cedar-clad Kennedy House takes formal cues from driftwood. The three-bedroom house, dock house, garage, and walled vegetable garden are linked by a series of wood walkways and decks. At the “kiss line” between two prefabricated modules, the lineal form of the house snaps like a branch held together only by bark. The open break forms a V-shaped outdoor room facing the water. Photography by Peter VonDeLinde

The walls frame a courtyard like a clearing in the forested area along the shore. While the garage and garden doors blend into the wood, the main entry interrupts it with an irregularly shaped sheet of glass, as though the surface has begun to tear at the kiss line. Floor-to-ceiling, full-length glass on the lakeside façades of both modules allows each to present a distinct, expansive view of the lake and its islands. Being inside the house feels like floating over the water.

The organization and details of the interior living space reinforce the sense of openness established by the glass. The kitchen counter is shifted slightly back from the glass, a thin slab of back-cut soapstone forms a dining island, and the fireplace is transparent on three sides. Polished teak surfaces continue from the walls and ceiling of the master bathroom to the counter, sink, and tub. Private living spaces occupy the far ends of the modules, where the end walls angle toward the tree canopy.

Diffuse Borders - MyHouseIdea

Diffuse Borders is a project that became a house in the process, its actual configuration decided during construction, its final purpose still undecided.
Uncertainty and vagueness become the strategies and the tools for constructing a series of spaces which solve the family´s needs, based on two fixed requirements: a field for playing football and a barbeque for entertaining.

This meant actually to have a very clear and systematic spatial and dimensional strategy that could be directly translated into material, variable construction, a diffuse border system, a porous structure that could allow gradual change within a set of rules, while keeping with the strict necessities of seismic resistance.
A redundant, light structural system based on standard steel flat bars, 6000 x 300 x 4 mm (6 and 8 mm where needed), a three dimensional lattice modulated every 600 mm.
This lattice stands independent from the use and dimension of the spaces, but varies in order to respond to their layout, configuration, dimension and use. It is a diffuse border but with a particular quality or degree of porosity, becoming literally as weak or strong as required. Depending on your position within or without the lattice it becomes absolutely defined and solid, or it apparently disappears.
Although it is the structural, spatial and material system, it is not identifiable as an architectural or structural element that relates us to a house, thus it is undefined, a diffuse border between architecture and structure, between material and immaterial, between inside and outside.

Denise has over 30 years of interior design experience and, to hear her tell it, she’s loved every minute. “There’s something different everyday. No two homes are ever the same, and no two clients ever have the same needs or tastes, which makes this work very fun and exciting.”

Working at the Washington Design Center after graduation, Denise gained a wealth of knowledge on the wholesale end of design. She worked for Stroheim & Romann, a high-end decorative fabric showroom. Before coming to Bountiful, Denise honed her skills at several other top design firms in the region.

Chesapeake Views, Cottage Journal, and Home & Design are a few of the publications in which Denise’s work has been featured. She is also the “go to” designer for any home staging projects. Whether requested by home owner or real estate agent, Denise’s talent for making a home feel warm and inviting often lights the spark for potential buyers, helping to make the sale.

Denise’s design portfolio includes homes in Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, and throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She was also an allied member of ASID for many years, and acted as the Secretary for the Eastern Shore Chapter.
