Since we already are in October, you have probably been seeing bags of candy everywhere. If you are not buying candy for trick-or-treaters, then you are probably buying candy for recipes (like Halloween Bark) or for your candy dish at work. However, have you ever thought of making some craft projects with that candy? If not, then you have come to the right place! Today I will be showing you 3 ways that you can use candy corn for Halloween decorating!

Specifically, I will be showing you 3 candy corn projects that vary in time and that vary in supplies. However, all 3 projects require very little skill and are perfect for that beginning crafter. Also, each project can be customized further to fit your own Halloween décor needs. For the tutorials below, I tried to keep everything simple and listed the projects from least time-consuming to most time-consuming.

Finally, since we are using candy corn, I did provide a way for you to seal in your candy corn to make it last longer. I did this for 2 of the 3 projects, since the Candy Corn Vases, don’t require the candy to be sealed.

Now grab a few bags of candy corn, pick a project below, and start creating!

Candy Corn Vases

Supplies:

  • Candy Corn

  • Fake Flowers, Fake Leaves, etc.

  • Vases or Candle Holder

Step 1: Fill your vase up with candy corn and then place your item in the vase. This item could be fake flowers, fake leaves or even a fake candle. The key to this project is to think of your candy corn as those “decorative rocks” that you would normally put in your vases.

With that being said, you do not want to put real flowers or (in my opinion) real candles in these vases/candle holders. At the end of the day, you are still using candy as your “decorative rocks” and must be realistic about what you can put in your candy corn vases.

Candy Corn Garland

Supplies:

  • Candy Corn

  • Sewing Needle

  • Clear Thread

  • Scissors (not pictured)

  • Clear Acrylic Spray

Step 1: Take a sewing pin and pre-poke holes into your candy corn pieces. While doing this, you will want to poke the hole in the middle of the candy corn, where there is only orange. You do not want to poke a hole where the colors meet because the candy will easily break.

Step 2: Cut a piece of clear string that is however long you want your garland to be. Then thread that clear string through a sewing needle and tie a knot. Finally, begin stringing on your candy corn. Once you are happy with how long your candy corn garland is, tie a knot.

Step 3: Take your candy corn garland outside and spray a thin coat of clear acrylic spray onto the front and back. This will help seal the candy corn and give it a protective top coat

Candy Corn Chalkboard

Supplies:

  • Candy Corn

  • Chalkboard

  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint (I used Bright Orange)

  • DecoArt Americana Decou-Page (I used glossy)

  • Paintbrush

  • Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks (not pictured)

Step 1: Paint the edges of your chalkboard and set it aside to dry.

Step 2: Grab your candy corn pieces and hot glue them around the edges of your chalkboard.

Step 3: Apply a thin coat of DecoArt Americana Decou-Page on the top of your candy corn pieces to seal them. Once you have completed this step, set your chalkboard aside to dry.

I think these candy corn projects turned out great and would look so cute at any Halloween or fall party! My favorite candy corn project out this group would definitely be the Candy Corn Chalkboard.

One last thing I wanted to mention, is how to store your projects after the Halloween/fall season is over. If you are making the Candy Corn Garland or Candy Corn Chalkboard, all you have to do is put them in a ziplock bag and place them in a sealed plastic container.  By doing this, you are creating two layers of protection for your project. Personally, I have made projects before which use candy and have never had a problem with them falling apart or turning bad when I have used this “storing method”.

So, after seeing all of these ideas, which of these candy corn projects would you want to make this Halloween/fall season?
