Cottle Carr Yaw Architects, more commonly known as CCY Architects, is an American studio based in Basalt, Colorado. They have designed this spacious and cozy residence in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, United States, sitting on a plot of land covering a total ground area of 2.5 acres, or one hectare, on the edge of Aspen, and overlooking the Maroon Creek.
The home, itself covering nearly 10,000 square feet, or nearly 1,000 square meters, is made up of three timber clad boxes which are linked by glass bridges. The materials used — dark zinc and textured cedar cladding — are meant to exist harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.
Each box contains a different section of the home: one houses the public area, another the master suite, and the last one, the children’s bedrooms. The interior design of the home, done in a neutral color palette, was created in collaboration with the Texas based firm Taylor & Taylor.
The backyard of the home is sheltered on three sides by these boxes, giving it a sense of privacy that is balanced by the section of it that is open to the landscape. From a distance, residents and guests alike can gaze upon the Rocky Mountains at their leisure while enjoying a dip in the pool.
