After a meticulous two-year revitalization, JBG Smith and North America Sekisui House LLC have completed their restoration of the iconic Wardman Tower. The renovation reveals 32 rare two- to four-bedroom homes ranging from 2,200-4,600 square feet, 12 of which have been sold or are under contract. Designed by New York architecture firm Deborah Berke Partners, the renovated space pays tribute to the opulence of mid-century Paris while adding an open and contemporary feel. Prices range from $2.5 – $9 million.

Once home to Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson, Herbert Hoover, and Marlene Dietrich, the nine-story, historic building resting at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Woodley Road, NW was built in 1928 by famed developer Harry Wardman. He partnered with Mihran Mesrobian to design the building, an architect also known for designing the Hay Adams Hotel and the St. Regis Hotel in Washington D.C. Recognized for its distinctive architectural style, the Wardman Tower, a Georgian Revival building, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Working to maintain the Wardman Tower’s original aesthetic, restoration experts reintroduced the original window configurations, balconies and doors. Thousands of square feet of the façade were reappointed with brick, cast iron, stone and metal to match the grandeur of Harry Wardman’s original vision. The updated residence features rooftop terraces with 360 degrees of monument viewing, a 2,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga studio, two clubrooms, a private outdoor garden, and a two-level below-ground garage. Each residence incorporates luxurious finishes including wide oak panel flooring, windows pre-wired for automated shades, and heated, mosaic-tile bathroom floors.

One apartment to note is the property’s Unit 6C. The expertly curated interior of Unit 6C at Wardman Tower offers an environment of elegance to all who enter. Custom lifestyle details abound, create an oasis for the senses, from richly paneled rooms to custom sculptural lighting, all essential elements of the design by Jeff Akseizer, principal of award-winning firm Akseizer Design Group in Alexandria, VA. “Each home should be a beautiful reflection of the life within it, and contain a lifestyle for timeless enjoyment,” says Akseizer, “our model at Wardman exemplifies a modern fusion of texture, form and function that provides an effortless framework for refined living with an organic twist.”

In-depth consideration of lifestyle is apparent throughout the home, which offers the perfect balance of open living and intimate purpose filled nooks, replete with custom built-ins and abundant natural light. An impressive range of décor includes an extensive collection of commissioned art pieces that grab attention and provide a calm and serene walk experience through the galleries leading to the grand salon. A series of petrified wood sculptures accompany the salons layered neutral palette that showcases linen on linen texture, a live edge walnut hand hewn dining table, and layers of organic interest at every turn. Akseizer seamlessly extended the fabric of this landmark building into the residence, creating a collected style where old becomes new and timelessness reigns supreme.
