Are you ready for the 4th of July? Once again it’s time to get festive and to let your American spirit take over. What better way to do that than with some lovely decorations which you can craft yourself? We find this strategy to be better-suited for anyone who enjoys being special and to add a personal and unique touch to everything they do. Of course, they’re so simple anyone can make them.

DIY garlands

Stars are actually festive right now and you can use them to make some eye-catching garlands. The suggestion offered on liagriffith is to make something pinata-inspired. The project requires the following supplies: star balloons, tissue paper (red, white and glue or with patriotic prints), some steel wire, twine, newspaper, wheat paste, paint and glue.

Of course, if you like the idea of a star garland but you’d rather keep it simple, there are ways to get it done. For instance, you could make some paper stars. Use a template or make a stencil yourself. In addition to the stars, you’ll also need some baker’s twine, a small hole punch, scissors and washi tape (this is optional). You can find instructions on hawthorneandmain.

You should also check out simpleindeed to find a detailed tutorial on how to make patriotic paper fan bunting. The project is, as expected very simple. The first thing you should do is print out the pattern on card stock or paper. Then just go ahead and shape the pages into fans. When you’re done you can add the small circles at the center and attach the fans to some twine or rope so you can hang the garland.

If you have some leftover pieces of fabric and a sewing machine, this red, white and blue garland is the perfect DIY project for you to try this 4th of July. In addition to the fabric, you’ll also need some ribbon. It’s all really simple…just cut the fabric into small pieces and then sew them all to a long piece of ribbon. Alternate the colors and the patterns and even use different shapes when you’re cutting the fabric.

Isn’t this tassel garland just perfect for the 4th of July celebration? It would surely look nice in the yard although you can also use something similar to decorate the interior of your home. But let’s first see what you’ll need for such a project. Well, the list of supplies is very simple: three tablecloths (red, white and blue) and clothesline. You can find the instructions on thescrapshoppeblog.

Wall-hanging decorations

Those empty walls in your home could use a touch of colors, especially on such a special occasion. As promised, we selected easy projects. One can be found on thehousethatlarsbuilt. It’s a project that requires a few easy-to-find things such as a wooden dowel, end caps, red, blue and white or cream yarn, a fork, felt balls, paint, some wooden beads but also a loom which might be pretty hard to find so you might as well make your own using a board, some nails and a hammer.

Actually, you could make a patriotic wall hanging piece using whatever you can find in the house. Maybe you can find some ribbon, fabric and even some doilies and buttons. You’ll also need a dowel but a stick can work just fine. Check out thinkcrafts to find out how to all these things together to make something beautiful to celebrate the 4th of July with.

A festive pillow

Decorative pillows can change the decor of a room instantly so if you’re looking for an easy way to add some festive and patriotic charm to your home, maybe you’d like to make a pom-pom pillow. It’s so easy you won’t believe it. Just get a small pillow with a white case, some red, white and blue pom-poms and a hot glue gun. You might also want to use a pencil to mark where you want to glue each pom-pom. In any case, the craftpatchblog will show you how the pillow should look like at the end.

Wreaths

Wreaths are always festive and you can definitely count on them to give you a boost of color and energy during the 4th of July celebration. There are lots of different ways to make a wreath look in a certain way and for this occasion you can always try a color-themed look. For example, you can use red, white and blue beads to decorate the wreath. It’s a fresh idea that we found on akailochiclife.

The pom-pom wreath featured on flamingotoes also has the patriotic flair required for the occasion. It’s also easy to make. All you need is yarn in the right colors, some little star decorations, pins and a foam wreath form. It’s all pretty self-explanatory…just make a bunch of pom-poms and use pins to attach them to the foam until you cover it all up. Then add the little stars.

We like burlap wreaths because they’re extremely versatile. They look chic and simple and they can be customized in lots of different ways. That being said, check out pleasenotepaper to see how you can make a patriotic burlap wreath. You’ll need the following: a metal wreath frame, burlap, wire, red, white and blue flowers, small flags, wide fabric ribbon, hot glue and scissors.

Reclaimed pallets

Don’t want to spend a lot of time making the decorations but you still want something special and eye-catching for this year’s 4th of July celebration? We have just the thing…an American flag decoration made from a repurposed wooden pallet. It’s something that we found on myfrugaladventures.

Turning a pallet into a flag is extremely easy. You need red, white and blue paint and, if you want to give it a special twist, you could also use a star stencil or some star-shaped ornament. You can check out a few possible design options on themagicbrushinc.  You can also come up with your own design ideas to truly make this a special decoration.

Firecrackers

You can’t have a 4th of July celebration without firecrackers. Well, actually you can but it wouldn’t be the same. We’re not suggesting you should make actual firecrackers yourself because that can be pretty dangerous but you could definitely make some decorations inspired by this. These wooden ones featured on tinselandwheat are a great example.

There are two different ways in which you can make firecracker centerpieces/ decorations like the ones featured on homanathome. One method involves using red, white and blue yarn which has to be wrapped around empty toilet paper tubes. The other method uses paint in the same colors. Both requires some white tissue paper.

DIY confetti poppers

Have you ever made your own confetti poppers at home? It’s pretty simple if you have all the necessary supplies. In case you want to make some festive ones to celebrate the 4th of July, you’ll need some plastic treat pops, some confetti or clippings from holiday decorations, paper shreds and patriotic stickers. the stickers go on the outside of the pops. found on love-the-day

Patriotic luminaries

These are great at night because you can admire the hole patterns but there’s plenty to look at during the day as well, especially if you paint the luminaries as shown on kleinworthco. Curious how you can make luminaries like these? It all starts with some empty tin cans. Fill them with water and put them in the freezer. Then take a nail and a hammer and make the holes following any pattern you want.

Table decor

Wondering what to put on your table this year on the 4th of July? Lots of delicious things, of course but you’ll also need some decorations to set the festive mood. It doesn’t have to be anything too sophisticated or complex. Something simple like these vases on todayscreativelife would be perfect. All you need if you want to make something similar is three glass bowls/ vases, water, red and blue food coloring and some daisies.

You could also make an impression with your napkin rings. Use red forks, spoons and knives and blue napkins and decorate them with white stars made of paper or cardboard. You can also combine these colors differently in case you have an idea different from what we found on jordanseasyentertaining.

In case you run out of idea, look around and see if there’s any way in which you could repurpose some mason jars…they’re so versatile that there’s always something you can use them for. You could, for instance, paint some and use them as containers for thinks like forks, spoons, pinwheels or as vases. found on craft-e-corner

A table runner can spice up the table decor, especially if it’s customized with a special pattern or design. For the 4th of July you could come up with a firework theme and use colored fabric paint (red and blue) to decorate a white table runner. You can look for directions on letsmingleblog.

Instead of napkin rings, maybe you’d like to try something different. We came across these silverware holders on themerrythought. To make them you’ll need the following things: thick white fabric, red, white and blue fabric, an iron, a sewing machine, scissors and a cup. You’ll be making pockets decorated with flowers/ discs.

Of course, for a more casual gatherings you can keep all the silverware in a caddy. Decorate it to make it look festive for the occasion. Use red, white and blue paint and, if you want to give it a distressed look to make it seem vintage, use a sanding sponge. It’s all described in more detail on decoart.

The pineapple sparklers featured on freutcake look like some festive decorations too, worthy of a special 4th of July celebration. They’re made using real pineapples. These were spray painted (red, white and blue, of course) and then sparklers were inserted in them. They sit on a tray and they look lovely.

Planters and flowers

A patriotic flower planter…now isn’t that special? You can put it out in the yard or garden or by the front door on the 4th of July for everyone to see. It’s a very simple project which only requires a few minutes to complete. It involves a container, vinyl decals and, of course, soil and plants. check out apumpkinandaprincess for more details.

In case you didn’t know this yet, paper flowers are really easy to make, especially roses, and you can use them in lots and lots of interesting ways to create decorations and centerpieces. For example, you can make a bouquet of red, white and blue roses and this can be your special 4th of July project. found on thecasualcraftlete

Star ornaments

We’ll end the list with a beautiful star-shaped decorations that we found on simplycountrylife. It’s made of scrap wood and it’s decorated with a burlap bow and a little flag. Feel free to personalize your own decorations however you want.
