The Cobourg residence is a waterfront home located on the Canadian shores of Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes that sit at the border between the United States in Canada.

As the owners had previously lived on a farm, they wished their new home to feel as similar to it as a modern home can feel. Taking this cue, Trevor Horne Architects, the architectural firm responsible for the home’s design, decided to reference local barn structures in order to fulfill their clients’ desires.

The lush landscaping design that envelopes the home serves to keep the sense of a connection to nature strong, and allows the home to feel vibrant and light due to the trees’ and bushes’ intense green color. In addition, it helps to preserve the homeowner’s privacy, shielding it from the nearby lakefront and park.
