DIY a fun flannel fall blanket that doubles as a furniture throw and a wearable scarf! Blanket scarves keep you warm wherever you go- whether you are wearing it as a scarf or using it as a blanket to keep warm on those chilly autumn evenings! Pick a colorful or bold plaid that adds a fun pop to both your decor and wardrobe! This is a super easy DIY for the novice crafter and takes less than 15 minutes!

Supplies:

• 1 and 1/3 to 2 feet of plaid flannel fabric with pattern on both sides


• Tape measure


• Sewing scissors


• Sewing pin

Instruction:

Layout your fabric and create a perfect square. This fabric that we used was 44 inches long and hemmed on the top and bottom. We had the sewing shop where we purchased the fabric cut it 44 inches long to start, but if you are working with a larger piece of fabric, cut the length to match the width. If you are using plaid fabric, this will make it easy to cut along a line for even edges.

To get the cut lines clean and smooth, pull out a few strands of thread from the corner of the fabric. This will create a nice thin fringe. If you are having trouble pulling the threads, use a sewing pin to loosen them up. Pull the outer most threads first until they are completely out before working your way inward (otherwise the threads won’t come out easily and may bunch your fabric).

Repeat step 2 on the opposite cut side of your fabric. This completes the edging on the entire blanket.

Fold over the fabric and toss is on the arm rest of a chair or the back of your sofa to add a warm fall touch to your home decor. To wear your blanket as a blanket scarf, grab the scarf by each edge and fold it once diagonally. Grab the corners on the long fold and wrap around your neck. Pull gently and tuck under the triangular point on the front side of your scarf!
