The term credenza is just another word to describe a sideboard or a console with, or at least that’s how we see things today. There was a time when the credenza had a very specific function which differentiated it from other similar pieces of furniture and we talked about that in detail a while ago. Still, even then we couldn’t clearly say what makes a modern-day credenza special and the truth is we shouldn’t even try to make that distinction because it no longer applies to what we can find on the market today. That being said, let’s have a look at some more beautiful credenza units.

The first item that we selected for you today is the Jungle Cabinet. It’s a piece with a lot of character and a name that actually says a lot about it. The cabinet has three drawers and a square storage module and no visible hardware. Its front features vertically-laid makassar ebony that creates a seamless, graphical pattern. On top of that, a strong jungle leaf pattern was superimposed for a contrast that stands out but doesn’t overwhelm the design.

The Othello credenza has aged brass feet and an intricate and graphical pattern that covers the sides of its drawers, leaving the center simple and elegant. The drawers have pastel pink lamb skin on the bottom and the entire cabinet features a hand rubbed satin lacquer finish.

This simple and chic chest of drawers is called Chatton. It’s something you can expect to see in a bedroom but also in a living room or a hallway. The unit is made of ash wood and has a visible frame available in antique brass or blackened steel, with hardware to match it. The wood parts come in several different finishes as well.

Although the Lapiaz credenza looks like a single unit, it’s in fact a combination between two individual modules. It looks glamorous and precious thanks to the polished stainless steel finish that acts as a mirror and the decorative cracks that reveal a set of golden accents. The interior of the cabinet is covered in poplar root wood veneer.

Despite the potentially pretentious nature of the term, a credenza is not necessarily aa highly sophisticated or opulent piece of furniture. In fact, a lot of designs are highly versatile, multifunctional and casual-looking. Check out this one designed by Faolchú. It offers plenty of storage inside of its drawers and central modules and it looks elegant and simple enough to be included into a variety of decors and spaces.

Meet Maya, a stylish credenza with a simple, rectangular shape and a graphical pattern of lines printed on its front. You can get in light oak or canaletto walnut and you can use it as a sideboard or console table in living rooms, offices, even bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms.

The Giò credenza (or console table, however you want to call it) is part of a collection designed by Rodolfo Dordoni. Its design blends wood and marble into a simple yet very suggestive form. The angular sides give the unit a lot of character and a strong contemporary allure which is further emphasized by the overall minimalism of the design.

Both the smoked mirror and the wood version of the Harald 240 sideboard are sleek and stylish, each in its own way. The frame of the unit is made of canaletta walnut and the interior is structured into two storage modules with doors and two drawers. This stylish credenza was designed by G. Carollo.

Balzac is a very artistic piece of furniture which combines a robust structure with a bohemian allure. It’s not exactly a credenza but it isn’t a typical sideboard or cabinet either. It’s something else entirely. The body of the unit seems to be made of stacked circular modules which open up to reveal drawers. The top can be used as a display surface. You can put two or three of these units side by side to create a larger piece similar to a console table.

Giorgio is another exquisite credenza which has a rather robust structure but doesn’t look it. The design puts an emphasis on the natural beauty of the wood and highlights the imperfections turning them into beautiful decorative motifs. The drawer fronts curve like waves and like the unit a dynamic look.

This credenza was named after the Roman god of wine, Bacchus, and its design shows the connection them. The unit has a design inspired by the form of a barrel. There’s a curving frame made of stainless steel and a series of wooden doors that open to reveal the storage spaces inside. The credenza was produced in a limited edition of only 20 pieces.

This is Elizabeth, a very stylish credenza with a simple, rectangular form and a lot of character. It has a delicate and graceful design, with thin metal sheets that define its shape and a plissé effect that’s reminiscent of light fabrics. Picture this elegant unit along the entrance wall or in the living room, paired with a beautiful piece of artwork.
