First impressions are important and, even if you don’t spend a lot of time in the foyer, you shouldn’t neglect it. But before we get into details, we should focus a bit on the obvious and the basic. So what is a foyer? Nowadays it has become a synonym of the entryway, often called an entrance hall. It’s the space that connects the entrance to other rooms of the house or apartment, the area where you welcome your guests. Now that that’s cleared up, we can check out some foyer decorating ideas and see what makes each one stand out from the rest.

Before anything else, you should pick a style for the foyer. It should be in sync with the rest of the house or apartment and it should make you and your guests feel welcomed and comfortable. This design, for example, is more on the traditional side and has some bohemian accents that give it a charming look. This is a design by Katie Leede.

A foyer can also be welcomed and stylish without being fully furnished. This one, for example, is very simple and open. The space looks chic with a touch of luxury and an overall modern flair. It’s fresh and clean but at the same time it has a soft and delicate allure. Hauvette & Madani gave it a refined and elegant look by using different textures and forms defined by sinuous lines and curves.

Always following the latest trends can be fun and exciting but it also comes with risks. Something can go out of style quickly and that’s never pleasant. Interior designer Dirk Jan Kinet chose a trendless approach and combined different styles and influences, creating an eclectic decor defined by some interesting elements, like this large wall portrait or this console featured in the foyer.

Every detail is important when furnishing and decorating a space, including the architecture. This foyer is a great example. Its design is a combination of elements that look exquisite when put together, elements like the painted glass, the ornate wall mirror, the vintage accent chair and that chandelier full of character.

Rustic-industrial with a hint of modern – this is the combination used here by designer Cortney Bishop. The house welcomes its guests into a foyer with walls covered in reclaimed wood, grey tiles on the floor, a metal bench and a colorful area rug. Several hooks are installed on the wall for hanging hats, coats and other things.

Choose the design of the foyer based on the location, the views, the culture and the history of the space but don’t forget to be creative. For this beach house, The Archers chose a retro design approach. Check out the house’s foyer. It’s open and it feels cozy and comfortable at the same time. Potted plants create a connection with the outdoors while warm wood accents and strategically placed chairs create a link with the rest of the rooms.

The foyer of this home in France is very chic. It’s modern, clean and simple with a few playful accents and some graphical elements that add a bit of drama to the mix. It’s a space designed by Ninou Etienne of Fusion D using art decor influences.

A foyer looks more welcoming when there’s a bench, a chair or some type of seating involved in its interior design. Also, area rugs can really change a space, adding texture and color and making it feel more comfortable overall. You can also improve the ambiance with some framed artwork or photos displayed on a wall.

This is the foyer in one of the charming spaces designed by Lucyna Kołodziejska. It shows that simplicity can be very elegant. It’s all about proportions and the right combinations of materials, colors and textures. This design shows that even a long and narrow hallway can be charming in its own way.

Entering this house feels like going into a secret garden. The doors look like vintage gates and the green used on the walls of the foyer is perfectly chosen by Louise Jones Interiors for this project, just like that exquisite foyer table and the decorations displayed on it.

Foyer lighting is important. An entrance hallway that’s dark and gloomy isn’t exactly the sign of a welcoming home. On the other hand, a good amount of natural light can really cheer up the place. If you’re not a fan of ceiling lights, you can improve the ambiance here with some table lamps.

Interior designer’s Amber Lewis signature style is a combination of vintage and modern, often defined by a white wall backdrop mixed with warm wood accents, patterned area rugs that feel nice underfoot and other accent details that make the space feel inviting and comfortable, like a blanket or a pillow throws casually on a bench or a potted plant in the corner.

Architect Camille Hermand knows how to find clever design solutions for difficult spaces, like this entrance hallway which, although long and narrow, feels pretty open and airy thanks to the glass walls that frame it on either side. They open up the foyer and they let in some of the light pass through while also visually connecting the two sides of the house.

When renovating this countryside retreat in Litchfield, Connecticut, the design team at Chango & Co. made sure to preserve as much of the original character of the house as possible so even though they updated the decor to look modern, they also added a bunch of accent details that suggest a vintage character. This applies to all the space, starting with the foyer.

There’s no need to go overboard with the details when designing a space, especially a small one like this foyer. The focal point in this case is the floor which features a very interesting graphical design created by Denis Krasikov. It puts together the colors used in here and it stands out, allowing the rest of the space to be simple. The small wooden bench, the trophy decoration and the hanging accent light are all clustered towards the back, allowing the wall tiles to be the center of attention.

The floor of this large foyer designed by Holly Hickey Moore also has a geometric and graphical look. Moreover, the two chairs feature upholstered seats that have a different pattern but in the same colors as those used on the floor. Then there’s also the fact that their frames and the tables are black which is one of the colors on the tiles.

In a lot of ways, the foyer is a reflection of the entire home. It’s the first space guest see when they’re invited inside and the last one you look at when you leave home. It would be nice if it felt comfortable and welcoming. This residence was designed by Kevin Dumais and its foyer is spacious and decorated with animal skin rugs, wooden furniture, elegant table lamps and materials, textures and colors that look and feel natural.

The foyer of this UK home is a space shared by an elegant wooden staircase, a chic round table, a large mirrors that casually leans against the wall and an eye-catching chandelier. All of these things are enhances by the dark blue walls.

The graphic wallpaper on this foyer’s walls create an exciting atmosphere which is toned down a bit by the soft and cozy fabrics and textures as well as by the colors used throughout.

The black and white combination is timeless and so is the checkerboard pattern which is beautifully used here to make this foyer look refined and elegant. the lack of large and robust furniture pieces also make it feel spacious despite the reduced footprint.

When it comes to small spaces and wall color in general, black is not exactly anyone’s first choice. Nevertheless, sometimes it can be surprisingly well-adapted to a space, like in the case of this foyer. This is a design where black and white contrast with each other and instead of being intertwined they’re displayed in big blocks.

Obviously, if you want to open up a foyer visually and to make it look bright and open, you’re better off using white as a main color. You can see that here. The white walls and ceiling have a big impact on the ambiance and the decor of the space.

There’s a lot going on here, even though the decor seems simple. There’s the wooden floor and the door which contrast with the white walls but at the same time share a connection with the cabinet and the round mirror frame while the rug and the chair coordinate with the walls.

The Healdsburg Ranch is a beautiful residence designed by JUTE and located in Sonoma County, California. Its interior design is a mixture of modern, rustic and industrial. The entrance foyer is bright and airy and furnished with a beautiful console that speaks for the refined rusticity of the place.

In some cases, the foyer is not just a small transitional space. This apartment designed by Ando Studio, for example, has a very large foyer with a pretty impressive decor. It’s furnished with comfortable benches and a stylish console table and it has a strong architectural look.
