This remodeling of a house in Balmain, New South Wales—a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, Australia—dating from the 1850s was carried out respecting its historical significance.

From the outside, it seemed as though nothing had changed; however, upon entering, we can see the true extension of the remodeling. The previous changes made to the home were not in its favor, and thus, the task of remodeling was particularly arduous. The end result was, nonetheless, absolutely fantastic.

An effort was made to create an open space that would allow the entrance of the environment’s natural light into the home. This would make the spaces inside not only feel more welcoming and lively, but also significantly affect the interior’s brightness.

Its wonderful stone walls give it a unique touch and keep part of its history intact. The ceiling, which are decorated with moldings, add a touch of elegance and harmoniously complement the walls’ rustic style.
