30 Gorgeous Blue Kitchen Decor Ideas

Blue is a color loved by everyone – it has stunning shades that can fit any space, any event. Blue has become a beloved color for many designers and decorators, they rock various shades in rooms and homes that they design. Blue can be a fit for modern and vintage, industrial and glam, coastal and rustic and many other spaces, it’s very relaxing and absolutely timeless. Today I’m going to share a lot of blue eye-candies for those of you who are suckers for blue: these will be blue kitchens of different tones. Let’s get started!

Blue Kitchen Cabinetry

Choose your color of blue and boldly rock such cabinets, here everything is possible, from soft pastel serenity blue and pale blue to cobalt or navy. Pale blue, serenity and other peaceful shades are amazing for coastal, rustic, shabby chic and vintage kitchens but of course you can rock them for other styles, too. Any shades of blue can stand out even more with brass or copper handles and touches throughout the kitchen, this way it’ll look more glam.

Pastel shades are perfect for vintage, shabby chic, coastal and other styles. They go well with white or neutral countertops, with marble or tile backsplashes. Brass and copper add glam and chic, and mosaic tiles are a nice idea to add eye-catchiness to the cabinetry.

Bold shades of blue like cobalt and electric look really cool in retro or vintage kitchens, and also in modern ones. Such cabinetry can be made even cooler with white marble or tile backsplashes and white or natural wood countertops that will add a rustic touch.

Dark blue shades are perfect for modern, industrial, vintage and just moody kitchens. To make the kitchen not that dark, you can rock white tiles and marble, or go for calm greys. If the kitchen is very dark and you don’t want it to steal the space visually, try white suspended cabinets and dark blue ones on the floor – this way the kitchen will look lightweight.

Blue Kitchen Islands

If you aren’t ready for rocking a bold blue kitchen or just can’t change the color now, try just a blue kitchen island. This is a chic way to add a coastal or seaside feel to the kitchen or just to add a colorful touch to the space. If there aren’t other blue details here, you can connect the kitchen island to the space using the same countertops. Enjoy!

The Darryl Carter Collection for Milling Road conveys a sense of understated grace. Known for his refined aesthetic, Carter combined classical looks with the clean lines of the mid-20th century in pieces ranging from case goods and upholstery to lighting, textiles and
accessories. “The collection has a very individual spirit,” the designer says. “Some compositions may seem an odd amalgam, but that is highly deliberate. I am prone to contrasts, opposites and the tension between classical and modern. I like juxtaposing things that might otherwise never be placed with one another.”

Though a lawyer by training, Carter was always fascinated by design and shifted gears about 20 years ago to launch a successful interiors practice. He has written two best-selling books, and his eponymous boutique—located in a pre-Civil War carriage house in Shaw—reflects his timeless appeal and gathered sensibility.

“In this age of ‘instant,’ the home should remain a bastion of tranquility that expresses the individual,” he says. “No two homes should ever be the same.” The collection is available exclusively at Baker in DC’s Cady’s Alley. bakerfurniture.com

Penthouse in Sydney by Stukel Stone

This industrial penthouse situated in Sydney, Australia, was designed in 2017 by Stukel Stone.

Description by Stukel Stone

Equipped for entertaining, this dynamic penthouse in the heart of Surry Hills is inspired by commercial hospitality interiors. Our clients, a couple from France and New York, worked with us to make bold and unexpected choices for their Sydney chapter.

The existing 2 bedroom apartment had a poorly planned layout and lacked generosity of movement and proportion. One incredible asset was a very large roof terrace offering views out across the southern Sydney CBD skyline. The new floor plan has been designed to connect all new fixtures to the existing services of waste, water and power. The positioning of the wet areas and kitchen avoided the disruptive and expensive process of core holing through the concrete slab into the ceiling space of the neighbour below.

All internal walls were non-load bearing with a concrete frame at the building perimeter. This allowed the majority of the interior to be stripped out and re-planned however major existing essential service risers were un-movable. These have been used as fulcrums or pivot points from which the new joinery attaches, creating the dynamic pantry, bar and entry sequence that shape and direct the use of the space.

Other key features; the kitchen (with two ovens!) that takes pride of place in the heart of the home, ceilings stripped back to concrete with exposed sprinklers and lighting.

Mid-Century Modern fans might be surprised to learn that there are many examples of the vernacular in the DC area. In Montgomery Modern: Modern Architecture in Montgomery County, Maryland, 1930-1979, author and local architectural historian Clare Lise Kelly documents these enduring mid-century relics, from office towers and high rises to storefronts and tract homes, that reflect post-War optimism and materials of the Atomic Age. Published by the Montgomery County Planning Department, the 2015 book also chronicles the architects, landscape architects, planners and developers behind these designs.

On October 8, a Montgomery Modern bus tour will visit Potomac homes from this era, along with the mid-century Charles E. Smith campus in Rockville. And on October 16, the author will speak at George Washington University Museum. montgomeryplanning.org/planning/historic/montgomery-modern/

10 Reasons Tray Ceilings Are Meant For You

https://interior-designing.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/10-reasons-tray-ceilings-are-meant-for-you.jpg

Do you feel like you’re living in a box? Many homes can feel too squarish with their straight walls, straight floors and straight ceilings. You can paint and carpet all you like, but you’ll still have a flat surface above your head. Lucky for you, there is a simple way to fix the whole view. Simply push into the space above your ceiling and treat yourself to a tray ceiling. This will make any room, no matter the height, feel luxurious and elegant. But before you resign them to expensive homes, here are 10 reasons tray ceilings are for everyone, even you.

Not only are tray ceilings good at separating the different areas of a large room, they are an easy way to add lighting where chandeliers or table lamps can’t reach. Just run the lighting around the edge and suddenly your room will be suspiciously brighter without a lot of light bulbs.

Are you looking to give your room some wow appeal? Think about warming up your tray ceiling with a bit of wood. Whether you install lighting or not, the comforting look will bring a welcoming feel to your space without having to change a single other thing.

Shiplap lovers, this one is for you. Putting a layer of shiplap into your tray ceiling will definitely amp up the farmhouse look of your room. Plus the texture is great for adding life and interest in an unexpected place.

While we’re talking about all the wood you can put into your tray ceiling, let’s think about some ornate trim pieces. Put a pattern on your ceiling and your dining room, or other space, will look like it belongs in the white house.

Contrary to some opinions, ceilings can be a great place for wallpaper, especially when it’s the textured kind. Just a little bit of color and your space will seem infused with your unique personality. Exactly the kind of feeling that makes your space seem like home.

Of course, feel free to put a pattern up there too. Especially in a room that is mostly neutral like a bathroom, that little extra something will give you a smile each time you enter the room. In fact, you might even want to add that element throughout your home too.

Many people are worried more about how others will view their home if they decide to sell when making their design decisions. If that describes you, put some neutral yet durable tile across your tray ceiling. The effect will feel expensive without emptying your pockets.

Does your home already possess tray ceilings that are deeper than usual? Make that count toward your design by painting them a color instead of the usual white. It will look charming and intentional instead of an eyesore.

Who says your tray ceilings have to be square? A round tray ceiling over a round dining room table will give your space the perfect look of beauty and symmetry, while showing off your real knowledge for interior design.

There is no reason why you should stick with one tray ceiling either. Go ahead and add the extra height with another layer or two. You won’t regret the gained headspace or the luxury look you’ll achieve.
