This colorful and vibrant hostel – FLOW Hostel – is located smack in the center of the city of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The hostel covers a total ground area of 660 square feet – covering the entire second floor of a hundred year old historic building that had been previously been an office, a student dormitory, and a theater – and was completed in 2016.
PRTZN decided to rework the interior in order to have a chain of open, bright spaces, which would eventually turn into the various social areas of the hostel: the reception area, an adjacent lounge, a self-service dining room, and a media hall. The ending result is stylish and hip, with luminous, brightly colored spaces that give the hostel as a whole a very strong personality while imbuing it with a sense of vibrant fun.
Modular architecture was used for the social areas, so as to allow the hostel owners to modify it to fit their needs as time passes. It is especially easy to do this as this string of rooms was designed as a chain, instead of individual spaces. This also adds to the guests’ experience, as they must walk through this entire chain before reaching their rooms, and so get a tour and introduction of the building facilities as soon as they arrive.
