The architectural firm, Kishimoto Himeno Architects, has designed a house in Sirahama-cho with a primary interest in preserving the views of the Pacific Ocean from the site along the Japanese coast. Some of the elements of the ancient structure existing in the place remained intact in the reconstruction of the new design in order to create a home that reflected the serene tranquility of the water.
Inside, an open floor allows the family to meet in virtually every space and enjoy the wonderful views of the ocean without any obstacles.The different elevations of the terrain required a design that would adapt to them in a natural way. As space moves farther into the structure, the height from the floor to the ceiling decreases gradually, moving away from the open views to the outside and increasing the sense of personal privacy. For example, in the master bedroom, the low ceilings create a comfortable and intimate atmosphere.
Despite being a small space, the large glass walls and the skylights installed in the ceiling of the house allow natural light to flow in, making the space seem larger. With the idea of the family enjoying themselves together in mind, an attached outdoor area was planned where the family could enjoy meals and gatherings while maintaining accessibility to the kitchen and preparation areas.
