When I picked up this ceiling medallion at a garage sale I wasn’t sure exactly what I’d do with it. As I looked at it, I decided it reminded me of a shining sun. The sun makes me think of being outside, so that’s where I decided to hang the medallion. This cheery sun inspired flamingo wreath makes my front door look extra welcoming!

Supplies used to make the flamingo wreath:

  • Ceiling Medallion, round

  • Yellow paint

  • Small pink flamingos

  • Pink paint

  • Wood arrow

  • Aqua Paint

  • White Paint

  • Brown Paint Marker

  • Stencil

  • E-6000 adhesive

  • Hot glue gun

Step one: Paint the ceiling medallion with cheery yellow paint. My medallion reminded me of a sun shape, so I just painted in the sections to look like sun rays.

Step two: Paint the flamingos. I think they look more realistic when you paint over the plastic finish. First, I paint the beak and eye area white. Next, paint the body pink. Finally, add a dot of black paint the the eyes and the end the back.

Step three: Paint the wood arrow with turquoise paint. Let it dry.

Step four: Use a stencil with white paint to spell the word “beach” on the arrow. Make sure you blot the excess paint off your sponge or brush before you stencil! Let the paint dry.

Step five: Trace the stenciled letters with a paint marker.

Step six: Attach the arrow and flamingos to the painted medallion. I use E-6000 glue with a bit of hot glue. The hot glue will hold the items in place while the E-6000 dries.

I wrapped a bit of tulle around the medallion and added a tulle bow. This created a sort of hanger that I could use. This fun, colorful flamingo wreath looks great near my DIY flamingo planters. Have fun creating decor this summer!
