This Mediterranean villa, which dates back to 1890, has had multiple owners over the course of the last century. Nowadays, it blends traditional and modern styles, thus creating a simply spectacular space. It is located in Pula, one of the most romantic towns in Croatia.

Pula is a seafront city on the tip of Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula, known for its protected harbor, long, beach-lined coast and Roman ruins. Such a beautiful region, with architecture dating back to the 10th century B.C.E., makes for a perfect opportunity for a contemporary touch. The design was carried out by the architectural firm based in Croatia, Studio TOBIS Engineering.

Interior design is minimalist with industrial details, famous in the Mediterranean Istrian region. White and light gray colors play important role in making the interiors bright and well-lit during the day. Furniture is kept modern with few pieces being specially designed by the Croatian designers.

The new owner had one simple request for his villa, with a not-so simple-detail: a living space that is combination of traditional and modern styles, but designed without forcing this popular “let’s build old” style. The problem with newly built villas in Istria, as the new owner explained, is that everyone wants to build new that looks old.

Part of the slanted roof is covered in glass, letting the daylight pass through the roof and glass hallway on the upper level all the way to the ground floor.
