This penthouse, which in another time was part of a school building, today functions as a private family residence. It was built in 1890 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and its recent renovation was undertaken by the architectural firm Sies Home Interior Design.

Many renovations have been done. Regardless, the original and unique characteristics of some elements of the building were preserved, which helped to keep the building’s charisma intact. The entire project took only five months to complete, and the result is a harmonious and attractive structure that is a delight to look at.

In spite of its extensive renovation, we can still find details that reveal its history and age. The old stairs, perfectly preserved, do precisely this in a very elegant way.

The spacious modern kitchen is perfectly adapted to the space, and its minimalist design leads us to forget, if only for a moment, how old the building actually is.

The bedrooms have a ceiling height of 4.5 meters. To optically lower the ceiling, moldings were added approximately 60 cm underneath the original ceiling. The part in between was painted white in order to easily create a cozy feeling. The walls and closets were painted in the same color.
