3 Tips And 25 Ideas To Mix Metals In The Interior

In our modern world there’s literally no space without metals in decor, and I’m talking not only about bathrooms or kitchens, the rest of the spaces have some metallic touches too. Decorating with metal is a popular idea now, you can see brass, copper and nickel finishes everywhere. It’s rather difficult to keep the space to one single metal, and changing all the metallic touches is a bit too expensive. Mixing metals in one space is breaking the rules of stylish decor but you can rock them in a chic way, so all the metals will look nice. How to mix different metals in one space to keep it stylish? Here are some tips and ideas.

Choose A Dominant Metal

While planning your decor and colors, choose the metal you want to dominate here, it can be copper for a trendy feel, or brass for a glam touch, maybe stainless steel for a clean modern look. This metal will be the main one here, and you should rock most of metallic details of it, they will emphasize and support the look. Other touches may include other types and shades of metal but keep most of them in the dominating metal, and try not to mix lots of them – 2 or 3 are enough.

Match The Finishes

To make the different metals look fine together, you need the same finish to unify the look. You can go for a polished finish for a shiny touch, or just satin finish that will make the fixture blend with the rest of decor rather than stand out. The type of finish you choose should fit the style you’ve chosen and the effect you want to achieve: for a trendy and bold look polished finishes work well, and for a mid-century modern and contemporary feel satin finishes work best. There’s also oil finish, which brings a touch of antique to the space, and it’s great for vintage and refined interiors.

Highlight The Statement Piece

You may choose one focal point in the room and make it stand out somehow. It can be just a large piece, for example, a big appliance or a large mirror in a metal frame, or you can highlight this piece with the use of various decorative elements and other metals to highlight it.
