Some houses are built to stand out, some to be extra cozy and some to make the most of the views. The Wooden House is a hybrid in this sense. It’s not big so it doesn’t look very dramatic or imposing but it’s set in a lovely forest clearing which gives it a beautiful view and plenty of privacy. At the same time, the house is designed with a cozy, warm and inviting interior. It was a project by studio Pikaplus, completed in 2015.

The Wooden House is situated at the verge of a large forest clearing
The house has a strong and durable outer shell meant to offer protection from the bad weather
The client really wanted the house to be connected to its surroundings and the glass walls help with that

The Wooden House, as it was named, offers a total of 82 square meters of living space and is located in Slovenia. Its design is simple but not very mainstream. A characteristic of the house is the fact that it has a durable outer shell which was needed if it were to offers its inhabitants shelter from the bad weather.

No part of the house feels totally exposed and yet the internal spaces are opened to the outdoors
The interior of the house is warm and welcoming thanks to all the wood
Large windows and glass walls bring in natural light and vibrant colors

Another defining characteristic for this project is the fact that the line between the internal and the external spaces is blurred and the connection is strong and natural. The ground floor has a glazed facade which frames the views and brings in lots of natural light but also allows the vivid colors of the forest to enter and to become a part of the interior decor.

The ground floor features this cozy living space in one of the corners, with a sectional that faces the view
The kitchen is open and has a U-shaped counter and built-in appliances
A small, square-shaped window connects the kitchen to its surroundings

Wood is the dominant material that was used throughout the project, including inside the house. The interior walls, floor and ceiling are lined with wood and this creates a warm and very cozy ambiance without imprinting a rustic feel. It helps that the decor is minimalist and mainly focused on what’s practical and functional.

The dining area is also on the ground floor, opposite to the lounge space
The bathroom is the only space which isn’t connected to the glass facade
A wood and metal staircase connects the ground floor to the attic space

The living room, kitchen, dining area and bathroom occupy the ground floor and a wood and metal staircase offers access upstairs where the attic space is. This zone is organized into several spaces, one of which is the main sleeping area and another a bedroom for the ids, with custom-built bunk beds.

The slanted ceiling definitely makes the space feel smaller but it also gives it a cozy feel
Up here there’s a sleeping area with bunk beds custom designed to fit under the roof
The master bedroom is small and very casual, with nothing but a low bed and some wall hooks
